TASTEBUDS PROVE WINNERS AT 2ND ANNUAL "BEST OF THE WEST, MARCH 1, 1998
Juicy morsels of steak. delectably delicious pies. Saucy barbecue.
Spicy enchiladas. And more than enough hungry people to sample the spreads of
several west side restaurants.
The 2nd Annual "Best of the West" Taste-Off was a
mouth-watering success, judging form the smiles of contented attendees. But the true
judging came from all tasters voted for their favorites in the categories of Best in Fine
Dinning, Best in Casual Dining and Best Booths.
Defending champion Charleston's dished our another win in the Casual
Dining and Best Booth categories, serving up steak, spinach dip, shrimp pasta and their
famous potato soup. Texas Grill came in second, while a a tie for third place went
to Glady's Soul Food and Good Eats Grill. Second place in the Best Booth Category
went to Spring Creek, which handed out Polaroid's of happy diners as mementos, and
event-host BK's Creative Catering came in a close third.
BK's came shining through to win first place in the mouths and
hearts of attendees in the Fine Dining category.
Competition was so close that there was a tie for second place, between
Isabella's and Steak & Ale. Oak Leaves restaurant won third place.
" We were delighted at the turnout and at the restaurants'
enthusiasm," said Sue Taylor, chair of the event. Mac Churchill, chairman of
the West Area Council, agreed. "Once again, west side restaurants out did
themselves, sending everyone home full and happy."
